Record Dir Blazed Benchmark V 1.0.0.1

Windows Directory Blazed Record Benchmark

------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is Record Dir Blazed Benchmark ?

Record Dir Blazed Benchmark is a Windows file-system benchmark designed to measure how
quickly the system can create and delete a very large number of directories.

The benchmark focuses on directory operations rather than large-file
transfer speed.

A lower completion time indicates better performance.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Benchmark workload

Record Dir Blazed Benchmark performs 7 benchmark cycles.

Each cycle uses:

- 1024 threads
- 90 directories per thread
- 92,160 directories per cycle

The complete benchmark processes:

- 645,120 directory creations across 7 cycles

Each cycle uses a different directory prefix so that its workload is
separate from the previous cycle.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Random workspace

When Record Dir Blazed Benchmark starts, it creates a temporary workspace directory with a
random name in the directory from which the benchmark is launched.

All benchmark directories are created inside this temporary workspace.

The workspace is used only for the benchmark and is removed when the
test finishes.

Do not open the random workspace in File Explorer while the benchmark is
running.

If Record Dir Blazed Benchmark detects that the workspace has been opened, the benchmark
is invalidated because File Explorer activity could influence the
result.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to use Record Dir Blazed Benchmark V 1.0.0.1

1. Place rdbb_V1_0_0_1.exe in the location where you want to run
    the directory benchmark.

2. Close unnecessary applications and avoid heavy background activity
if you want a more consistent result.

3. Run rrdbb_V1_0_0_1.exe

4. Do not open or interact with the random benchmark workspace while
    the test is running.

5. Wait until all 7 benchmark cycles are completed.

6. At the end, Record Dir Blazed Benchmark displays the average result:

Your Record Average: xx Seconds (Lower is better)

Lower values represent faster completion of the benchmark workload.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Diagnostic information

During the test, [DIAG] messages show the current benchmark activity.

They indicate operations such as benchmark initialization, directory
creation, waiting for worker threads, handle closure, directory
deletion, and the duration of completed benchmark cycles.

These messages are informational and allow the user to follow the
progress of the benchmark.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Benchmark validity

For a meaningful comparison:

- Run rdbb_V1_0_0_1.exe from the same storage device when comparing results.
- Avoid opening the benchmark workspace.
- Avoid starting other disk-intensive applications during the test.
- Use similar system conditions between benchmark runs.

Results can be affected by the storage device, Windows file-system
behavior, CPU performance, memory pressure, background applications,
antivirus activity, and system caching.
